Reclaim Your Vision

Back in the day, when you have lost your perfect 20/20 vision, it becomes a downhill motion that eventually leads to blindness. Some are able to hold it out longer, experiencing loss of sight at the onset of old age. Others experience what is termed as “legally blind” where the patient can still see hazy images, but cannot distinguish the form.

Nowadays, there have been several breakthroughs in reclaiming one’s vision. From the ever-trusted graded eyeglasses to the more advanced operation LASIK, people now have more choices to get back clear vision.

Eyeglasses

The most common solution to poor eyesight is wearing prescription glasses. This is because regardless of age or eyesight grade, virtually anyone can wear glasses. Aside from this, there are a variety of glasses, the two most commonly used being prescription glasses to provide accurate and clearer vision, and the other to correct conditions like astigmatism.

Unlike contact lenses, wherein you have to follow a strict procedure for maintenance, eyeglasses can be worn even by kids. The only thing you have to make sure of is that the eyeglasses should match the grade that your eyes need.

This should be noted because some people can experience headaches and other complications if they use the wrong grade eyeglasses. This is why you always have to check with your optometrist about your eyeglass grade.

Contact lenses

When it comes to wearing contact lenses, it is the closest thing that one can have in terms of having a brand new eye via the use of visual aids. Contact lenses are placed on the cornea in order to correct the vision. The most common ones are either clear or tinged with blue to make them more visible when submerged in a solution. However, there are contact lenses that can change your eye color.

The main advantage of contact lenses is that unlike eyeglasses, contact lenses allow you to do rigorous activity that would otherwise be limited by eyeglasses. Those who have gotten used to this visual aid will not feel any discomfort when they go about their activities.

However, it is this aspect that also makes contact lenses a visual aid that requires constant care. Most people tend to forget that they are wearing contact lenses and even go to sleep while still wearing them. This is dangerous and can lead to eye infections like ptosis, corneal abrasion or erosion, giant papillary conjunctivitis or keratoconus.

Eye exercises

For those who want to go on a more preventive route, wherein they could preserve the integrity of their eyesight, eye exercises have been proven to train your eyes to adapt to a better vision. These exercises are catered towards working professionals who have a tendency to work late hours in front of the computer.

Even simple eye exercises such as conscious blinking to refresh the eyes, looking away from your computer monitor and at an object at the other end of the room to avoid becoming nearsighted, or even tracing an invisible figure in front of you to train your eye nerves’ flexibility can help. These can be done for just a few minutes a day and they can make a huge difference for your eyesight.

LASIK

LASIK surgery is one of the most preferred solutions nowadays. Despite its initial cost, LASIK can save you more money than eyeglasses or contact lenses, plus it improves overall vision without the need for further visual aids afterwards.

To do this, the LASIK procedures can target higher or lower order aberrations of the eyes, which improves vision and leaves you with better eyesight than before.
